Radon Testing for Daycares

Children can spend up to 10 hours a day in home daycare.  Reliable Radon recommends that all home daycare locations be tested at least every 2 years.  A first step toward lung cancer prevention is to test for radon.

Illinois Child Daycare Act – Radon Testing

Effective January 1st 2013 all Illinois licensed daycare centers and daycare homes are required by law to test for the radioactive gas radon.  Additionally, Effective January 1, 2014, as part of an initial or renewal license application proof must be provided that the daycare facility has been tested within the last 3 years. The test must be in accordance to the rules established by the Illinois Emergency Management Agency.

We have the Experience

Reliable Radon Inspections, Inc. is fully licensed by the State of Illinois and properly insured to provide daycare radon testing services.  Since 2008, Reliable Radon Inspections has performed thousands of radon measurements and has the experience and understanding needed to successfully and seamlessly test your at-home or commercial daycare facility.  Our professional team understands that daycare facilities can pose unique challenges such as: quite hours, inquisitive and exploitative children and no-shoe areas such as infant rooms.  We strive to seamlessly integrate into your daily routine and make the radon testing process as easy as possible for you and your customers.

Let’s Get Started

It is best practice to test your daycare during a regular school week, when the facility is occupied by both students and staff, and normal activities are occurring.  Prior to conducting any radon measurement a representative from Reliable Radon Inspections will perform an onsite survey to identify all areas that are required to be tested.  This onsite survey step is critical to determining the correct number of monitors to be placed and is necessary for us to provide you with an accurate quote.  To keep you well informed, a detailed Project Plan will be created specifying the scope-of-work.  Additionally, we’ll take care of providing you with customized informational letters that you can disseminated to your staff and clients regarding the upcoming radon test.

Placement of the radon monitors will be schedule in advance, this allows you time adhere to the required closed building conditions and to inform your staff and customers about the upcoming radon testing process.  Depending upon the size of the facility being tested device placement and retrieval times can vary, on average we estimate ten minutes per detector that is being placed.  So for example, a facility requiring 20 detectors would require us to be at your building for a little over two hour.  The actual testing process, from start to finish, takes around a week to complete.  We typically deploy the devices on a Monday or a Tuesday; they sit until Thursday or Friday.  Radon Test Reports are generated and distributed the SAME DAY that we retrieve the radon testing devices.  Along with your Radon Test Report we will provide you with the DCFS required posting filled-out and ready to post.

Note: In accordance with Illinois law, the decision to mitigate shall not be based on initial radon measurement results.  Additionally, to avoid any conflict of interest Reliable Radon Inspections, Inc. does not perform the mitigation of radon gas.
